About Bayswater Beach

Bayswater Beach is a crescent of sand tucked into a protected cove on the Aspotogan Peninsula, roughly 72 km — about an hour — from Halifax, halfway between the city and Lunenburg on the Lighthouse Route. The cove's orientation keeps the surf calm, and water temperatures climb to around 17°C in July and 19°C in August, warm enough for real swimming close to the city. It is a favourite rest stop on the scenic drive down the South Shore. Inside Bayswater Beach Provincial Park the facilities cover the essentials: free parking, washrooms, change rooms, and picnic tables behind the beach. Lifeguards supervise daily July 1 through August 30, 10 AM to 6 PM — a genuine plus for families, since several nearby beaches are unsupervised. There is no boardwalk or canteen, so pack food and drink. The 600-metre beach holds medium crowds comfortably, and its gentle shape gives it a sheltered, low-stress feel for swimming and family visits. Wheelchair access is partial, and dogs are welcome on leash. The beach pairs naturally with a loop around the Aspotogan Peninsula or as a leg-stretcher en route to Lunenburg's Old Town.
