About Black's Point Beach

Black's Point Beach is a small, sandy community beach at the head of St. Margaret's Bay, about 40 km — roughly 30 minutes — from Halifax on Route 3. Part of the string of coves and sand flats known locally as the Ten Beaches area, it sits close to the busy coast road but keeps a quiet, local feel, with low crowds through most of the season. The swimming is the surprise. At low tide the bay empties over warm flats, leaving shallow, sun-warmed saltwater pools that reach around 17°C in July and 19°C in August — some of the warmest saltwater swimming within half an hour of the city, and shallow enough that small children can wade well out from shore. The beach itself is a compact 250 metres, with free parking and picnic tables but no washrooms, change rooms, canteen, or lifeguard supervision — plan it as a local's stop rather than a full-service beach day. Surf is calm, wheelchair access is limited, and dogs are welcome on leash. Black's Point works well combined with a Peggy's Cove loop or a slow drive along St. Margaret's Bay, particularly for families wanting an easy, low-commitment swim near the city.
