KitchenFest! / Féis a' Chidsin!

KitchenFest! / Féis a' Chidsin! was Nova Scotia's largest summer celebration of living Gaelic culture. The 2026 edition lit up Cape Breton Island from June 26 to July 4 with nine days of live music, kitchen parties, and community gatherings. Named for the Gaelic word for 'kitchen' — the traditional heart of Cape Breton musical life — the festival spread across community halls, pubs, and waterfront stages from Sydney to the Mabou and Inverness coastlines.

The 2026 program featured nightly céilidhs, lively square dances, afternoon concerts, and hands-on cultural workshops where visitors could try a few steps of step-dancing or learn a phrase of Gaelic. True to its name, many of the best moments happened in intimate kitchen-party settings, where world-class fiddlers, pipers, and piano players kept the island's centuries-old musical traditions burning bright well past midnight.

KitchenFest! was timed to kick off the peak Cape Breton travel season, making it an ideal anchor for a summer road trip along the Cabot Trail. Pair it with a hike in the Cape Breton Highlands, fresh seafood in Cheticamp, or an evening at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck. Many events were free, and the warm community welcome was quintessential Cape Breton.
