Before you plan your march up to the Halifax Citadel, here are the key details you need to know for a seamless visit.

  • Address: The historic site is centrally located at 5425 Sackville Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Both the main entrance and the school group entrance are found at this address.
  • Hours: The grounds are open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, year-round. However, the experience changes with the seasons. For the full immersive experience—including access to interior rooms and exhibits—plan your trip between May 7 and November 5, 2026. From November 6 to May 6, programming is limited, though you can still access Parade Square, weather permitting (the interior rooms and upper ramparts are closed in winter).
  • Admission: A visit requires a paid admission fee. 2026 rates: Adult (18-64) $22.00, Senior (65+) $18.75, Youth (6-17) FREE from Parks Canada. Admission is FREE for everyone from June 19 to September 7, 2026 as part of the Canada Strong Pass program. A Family/Group rate is also available for up to seven people in one vehicle.
