Shubie Park

Located at 54 Locks Road between Lake Micmac and Lake Charles in Dartmouth, Shubie Park is Halifax's premier urban natural retreat. The 11-kilometre green corridor follows the Shubenacadie Canal and mixes natural beauty, history, and recreation: trails for walking and biking, beaches on both lakes, dog-friendly paths, and the only serviced campground inside Halifax city limits. Bus Route 55 stops at the entrance, so the park is an easy escape from downtown.

• Address & Location: The park is located at 54 Locks Road in Dartmouth, an urban green space between Lake Micmac and Lake Charles. It is easily accessible by public transit via Bus Route 55, with the stop a short walk from the entrance.

• Hours of Operation:
  • Park Grounds: Open daily during daylight hours.
  • Fairbanks Interpretive Centre: Open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (based on 2025 published hours; confirm current schedule with the Shubenacadie Canal Commission at 902-462-1826). No winter maintenance from November 1 to April 30.
  • Shubie Campground: Operates seasonally from May 15 to October 12.

• Cost:
  • Admission: Access to the park and the Fairbanks Interpretive Centre is completely free, though donations to the centre are welcome.
  • Campground Fees: Fees apply for overnight stays, varying by site type; confirm rates directly.
