The trail is open year-round with 24/7 access. There are no admission fees, and no booking or reservation system is required; access is first-come, first-served. Please note that the parking area and washrooms are only maintained seasonally during the summer months.

Gaff Point is a 6.5km loop trail that takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. It is rated as moderate in difficulty, featuring a mix of 3km of beach walking and 3.5km of rugged coastal forest trail. Beach access is significantly affected by tide levels, so it is essential to check tide charts before your visit for safe passage.
Facilities & Accessibility:
A large parking lot is available at Hirtle's Beach, with vault toilets on-site during the summer. There are no food, water, or other services, so visitors must bring all their own supplies. The trail has limited accessibility due to its rugged terrain, beach walking, and steep cliffs, making it unsuitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
Policies:
Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a leash at all times. Biking, motorized vehicles, fires, camping, and hunting are prohibited. As tick warnings are posted at the trailhead, taking precautions is advised, and all visitors are expected to follow leave-no-trace principles.

The trail is managed collaboratively by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy, and the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg. Gaff Point is a 6.5 km loop that takes most hikers one to two hours — the headland opens onto sweeping Atlantic views, and the beach section is easiest at low tide, so check the tide chart at Hirtle's Beach before you set out. Go on a calm day and keep dogs leashed.
