Dine inside a beautifully restored 1920s railway dining car at the Train Station Inn in Tatamagouche. The menu features fresh local seafood, lamb, beef, and chicken, with dinner served in the dining car and lunch served in the station. A proud Taste of Nova Scotia member on both the Chowder Trail and Lobster Trail, the dining car offers a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that pairs maritime history with regional cuisine, and the surrounding station complex of café, gift shop, and the inn's famous converted cabooses makes it easy to turn a meal into a half-day stop.
The 2026 season runs May 1 to October 11. Hours were reshuffled in late August 2026: lunch now runs 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Station (no reservations; first come, first served), while the Railway Dining Car concentrates on dinner service 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with reservations preferred — same-day bookings can be made by calling (902) 657-9091. The Baggage Room Bar pours 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and the station's Gift Shop, Front Desk, and Café run 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Out back, the Outdoor Kitchen fires up with live music every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Getting there
21 Station Road, Tatamagouche, on the Northumberland Shore roughly 90 minutes from Halifax via the 102 and Route 4, a natural lunch stop on the way to or from Cape Breton or the Northumberland Shore beaches.
Reservations
Lunch (now served in the Station) is walk-in only. Dinner reservations in the dining car are preferred, and worth making in July and August when the village fills with leaf-peepers and cyclists on the Tatamagouche-to-Oxford rail trail.
Stay the night
The Train Station Inn lets you sleep in converted railway cars and cabooses parked on the original tracks, one of Nova Scotia's most distinctive overnight experiences, and the reason many travellers time their dinner reservation with an overnight stay.
Season note
The complex closes for the winter after October 11, 2026; check the official site for shoulder-season dinner service before travelling in early October.
