Terra Beata Farms is a working cranberry farm on Heckman's Island, a short drive from Lunenburg on the South Shore, where producing bogs sit close enough to the Atlantic to catch the sea air. The farm runs the first and only cranberry u-pick in Nova Scotia every October, when the harvest window opens and visitors walk the bogs picking fruit straight from the vines.
October is the month to come. The u-pick typically runs Tuesday through Saturday (dates shift with the season — call 902-634-4435 or watch the farm's social channels), and it doubles as the property's best photo opportunity: harvested sections are flooded and the fruit is corralled into crimson rafts, the scene most people associate with cranberry farming. The rest of the year the farm operates as a producer first. Its Terra Beata-brand sauce, low-sugar dried cranberries, pure juice, and juice cocktails ship to Sobeys, Loblaws, and associated banner stores across Canada, and the full product line is available at the farm by curbside pickup Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 3 PM — call ext. 205 to order; payment is cash or e-transfer.
