About Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival
The Mahone Bay Classic Boat Festival (presented as the Heritage BoatYard Weekend) is a picturesque celebration of wooden boats and Maritime craftsmanship held in one of Nova Scotia's most charming seaside towns. Mahone Bay's sheltered harbour, framed by its iconic three churches, provides a backdrop for a weekend showcasing beautifully restored classic vessels, from sleek sailboats to sturdy workboats.
Note on dates: the 2026 edition did not take place β the Heritage BoatYard Co-op did not publish confirmed dates, the festival did not appear on the official Mahone Bay events calendar (which listed the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and Chester Race Week instead), and the Nova Scotia Schooner Association held its 2026 Schooner Race Week in Hubbards. The festival has historically run on the second weekend of August (August 8-10 in 2025, August 9-11 in 2024). The next expected edition is August 13-15, 2027 β confirm with the Mahone Bay Civic Marina before travelling.
When the festival runs, visitors can tour classic wooden vessels, talk to their owners, and watch skilled boatbuilders at work, with onshore exhibits of traditional woodworking and marine skills at the Mahone Bay Civic Marina. The waterfront grounds also host local artisans, food vendors, and live folk music. Mahone Bay is regularly named one of Canada's most beautiful towns, with its tree-lined streets, boutique shops, and galleries. The Heritage BoatYard Co-op has organized this weekend celebration of wooden boat culture for over a decade, keeping alive the shipbuilding heritage that launched hundreds of vessels between 1850 and 1942.
