Quick Facts
History & Description
Battery Point breakwater light is shown at an elevation of 22 feet (6.7 m) from a white square tower, on the outer end of the breakwater. A fog signal of one blast every 20 seconds is sounded from Battery Point; the horn points 130'.
The current tower, built in 1951 at the end of the Battery Point breakwater in Lunenburg Harbour, is the third lighthouse on this site. Earlier structures dated back to 1864, when the original keeper's dwelling with a lantern on the roof was established. Battery Point takes its name from the historic fortifications that once guarded the entrance to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town is a crown jewel of the South Shore, and its growing reputation for craft beer makes it a rewarding stop after exploring the harbour.
