For over two decades, the Halifax Lebanese Festival has been one of the city's most beloved summer traditions, transforming the Olympic Community Centre in the North End into a vibrant celebration of Middle Eastern culture. The 2026 edition marks a milestone: 25 years of bringing authentic Lebanese cuisine, music, and traditions to Halifax, running August 27-30, 2026. Admission is free, and the festival draws thousands of visitors of all ages each year to experience the rich flavours, sounds, and warmth of Lebanon in the heart of Nova Scotia's capital.
The festival is organized by Halifax's Lebanese-Canadian community and presented by TD, and has been named one of Discover Halifax's top cultural and foodie events. It is the kind of event that bridges communities: Lebanese families reunite over familiar dishes, first-time visitors discover the food for the first time, and the North End neighbourhood fills with the aromas of grilled meat, fresh herbs, and sweet pastries for four days each August.
The Food: A Taste of Lebanon in the North End
The food is the heart of the festival. Vendors serve a full spread of Lebanese classics: shawarma and falafel, freshly baked manakish flatbreads, tabbouleh and fattoush salads, hummus, kibbeh, and sweets like baklava, maamoul, and knafeh. Portions are generous and prices are kept reasonable, and the lineup changes slightly from year to year as different community cooks and vendors take part. Arrive hungry - most visitors agree the shawarma plates and baklava are worth the trip alone.
Music, Dance & the Marketplace
Beyond the food, the festival is a cultural showcase. Traditional dabke dance performances get crowds up and clapping, and live Arabic music plays throughout the weekend. A bustling marketplace sells handmade crafts, jewellery, and imported goods, while cooking demonstrations share the secrets of Lebanese home cooking. A dedicated kids' zone keeps younger visitors entertained with games, crafts, and activities, making the festival a genuinely family-friendly outing.

The festival runs four days at the Olympic Community Centre (2304 Hunter Street, Halifax): Thursday and Friday 11 AM to 10 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 10 PM, and Sunday 11 AM to 7 PM. Admission is free; food and market items are pay-as-you-go, and parking is available on site. The venue is a short drive or bus ride from downtown Halifax - combine your visit with a wander through the nearby Hydrostone Market and the shops of Agricola Street.
