Rushtons Beach is a long, 1.5-kilometre stretch of golden sand on the Northumberland Strait inside Rushton's Beach Provincial Park, about 172 km — roughly two hours — from Halifax near River John. It is one of the provincial park system's dependable family beaches: a boardwalk carries visitors from the parking area over the dunes to the sand, and the facilities — free parking, washrooms, change rooms, and picnic tables — cover a full day out. The water is the headline for most families. The strait's shallow water warms to around 19°C in July and 20°C in August, with calm surf that keeps conditions manageable for children. At low tide, tidal pools form along the flats — perfect for kids to explore marine life safely with a bucket and net. Crowds are medium and the beach's length absorbs them easily; walking the full stretch at low tide is a quiet, hour-long outing.
