Quick Facts
About Avon River Days
Avon River Days is Windsor's premier summer celebration, a beloved community festival that took over the town for the Natal Day long weekend from July 31 to August 2. This free, family-friendly event transformed Windsor's historic waterfront and downtown into a three-day carnival of music, food, activities, and small-town Maritime charm.
Highlights included live entertainment across multiple stages, a beloved parade through downtown Windsor, children's activities and inflatable games, a bustling artisan market showcasing local crafts, and the popular 'Rock the Rink' skateboarding and BMX demonstrations. Most events and activities were free, making it one of the best-value festival experiences in Nova Scotia. Food vendors served up classic Maritime fare including lobster rolls, fish and chips, and fresh lemonade.
Windsor calls itself the 'Birthplace of Hockey' and Avon River Days celebrated this heritage with hockey-themed activities alongside the riverfront setting. The festival's relaxed, community-focused atmosphere made it perfect for families, while the evening concerts and beer garden catered to adults looking to kick off the long weekend in style. Located just 45 minutes from Halifax, it was an easy day trip or weekend getaway.
