About Cape Breton Island Gaelic Mod

The Cape Breton Island Gaelic Mod was a celebration of Scottish Gaelic language, song, and culture held at the Gaelic College in the stunning setting of St. Ann's on the Cabot Trail. The Mod is a traditional Scottish competitive festival adapted to Cape Breton's unique cultural landscape, preserving and promoting the Gaelic heritage that is central to the island's identity.

The 2026 Mod featured competitions in Gaelic singing, storytelling, poetry, and piping, drawing participants from across Cape Breton, mainland Nova Scotia, and Scotland. Beyond the competitions, the festival offered Gaelic language workshops, weaving and kilt-making demonstrations, Highland dancing, and traditional fiddle and pipe music throughout the weekend.

The Gaelic College, overlooking the beautiful waters of St. Ann's Harbour along the world-famous Cabot Trail, provided a breathtaking setting for the Mod. Visitors could explore the College's cultural exhibits, shop for authentic Celtic crafts, and experience the living Gaelic tradition that makes Cape Breton one of the few places outside Scotland where the language and culture thrive.
