Sinister Soirée at Fortress of Louisbourg

The Fortress of Louisbourg goes dark for one night a year — and the 6th annual Sinister Soirée on Saturday, October 24, 2026 (5:00–11:00 pm) is the after-dark Halloween party the 18th-century fortress throws for grown-ups. The Fortress Louisbourg Association welcomes 600 costumed guests for haunting history blended with live music, DJs and dance floors, wickedly good cocktails, tarot readings, haunted tours, costume contests, and crypt walks through the reconstructed streets of North America's largest 18th-century fortress.

The details matter here: this is a strictly 19+ event (bring photo ID — bartenders are required to card anyone who appears under 30), tickets are $60 and must be purchased in advance through the Fortress Louisbourg Association (none sold at the gate), and costumes are highly encouraged — the costume contest is a highlight of the night. Bring cash for the mediums and tarot readers, arrange a designated driver or ride home, and respect the grounds: no littering and stay off the fortress walls.

The soirée caps a fall season that's increasingly using Louisbourg after hours — the site also hosts Paranormal Investigations Weekends in late September — and it's an easy pairing with a Cape Breton fall-foliage weekend, since October colour peaks in the highlands a few weeks earlier.
