Canadian Multiculturalism Day

Canadian Multiculturalism Day was a vibrant annual celebration of the diverse cultures that made Cape Breton home, hosted by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality in partnership with the Multicultural Association of Cape Breton. Taking place at Sydney's Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre, this family-friendly event brought together communities representing Mi'kmaq, Acadian, Scottish, Eastern European, Caribbean, African, and Asian heritage through food, music, art, and interactive experiences. The 2026 celebration took place on June 27.

The 2026 celebration featured an International Food Festival with tickets ($5 each) redeemable at eight participating restaurants including Super Bun, Taste of Ukraine, Viet Yummy, Samar's Kitchen, Omma's Korean BBQ and Grill, Pam's Kitchen, Isla Kusina, and Nanaxhi Traditional Tastes. Live musical performances featured Brazilian headliner Bia Ferreira — blending soul, blues, reggae, funk, and R&B — and local favourites WAM-PUM. A hands-on cultural fair offered henna art, Chinese rubbing bookmark making, and traditional windmill crafting.

As Mayor Cecil Clarke noted, 'Multiculturalism Day is one of the most joyful celebrations we host each year. It reflects who we are as a community; welcoming, diverse, and proud of the many cultures that call Cape Breton home.' The 2026 event ran 5–9 PM at the Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre and was free to attend, offering a genuine taste of Cape Breton's cultural richness.
