Pugwash Harbourfest

Pugwash Harbourfest celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2026, marking two decades as one of the Northumberland Shore's most beloved summer traditions. Held along the picturesque Pugwash waterfront where the Pugwash River meets the Northumberland Strait, this three-day, family-friendly festival drew thousands of visitors from across Atlantic Canada for a weekend of free entertainment, maritime competitions, and small-town celebration. The festival's packed schedule centred on the water. Signature events included the 5K Salt Dash Run along the harbour, a stand-up paddleboard competition, the wildly popular lobster crate races (where competitors try to stay upright on floating wooden crates), log rolling demonstrations, beach volleyball tournaments, and the brute-strength Strong Arm competition. On Saturday evening the main stage came alive with live music headlined by The Fabulously Rich, Atlantic Canada's acclaimed Tragically Hip tribute band, whose high-energy show has become a Harbourfest tradition. Crockery smashing, a pie auction, and a classic car show rounded out the eclectic lineup.

Harbourfest is built for families. A dedicated kid zone offered games, face painting, and crafts throughout the weekend, while food trucks and a community beer garden kept everyone fed and refreshed. Local artisans set up along the wharf selling handmade goods, and the festive atmosphere spilled out into the village's shops, cafés, and local dining spots like Sheryl's Bakery & Cafe.
