Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition

Update, August 2026: the 45th Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026, has been cancelled by the Halifax Regional Municipality. HRM cited resident safety under an Environment Canada special weather statement that forecast 50+ mm of rain, with continued wet conditions on the single-lane road that provides the only vehicle access to the beach. Registration was always handled on the beach — no tickets were sold in advance, so there is nothing to refund. The competition is expected to return in August 2027; watch the official Halifax.ca page for the confirmed date.

The Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition is one of Nova Scotia's most beloved summer traditions, normally drawing over 10,000 spectators and competitors to the Eastern Shore for a day of world-class sand sculpture. The cancelled 2026 edition had been set to transform Clam Harbour Provincial Park's long sandy beach into an open-air gallery of towering castles, intricate sculptures, and creative sand art — 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at 158 Beach Road, Lake Charlotte, with $2,600 in Visa gift card prizes, free spectator admission, and a free shuttle bus servicing seven stops along the Eastern Shore.

First held in 1979, the competition has survived cancellations before — including 2025's dry-conditions call — and remains the Eastern Shore's biggest single-day event.
